I am a painter. My heart is stirred by brilliant literature and my soul is filled by art that speaks and touches the heart.
There is design in everything, it is all around us, we only need to stop and see. Really see. There is beauty, colour and design in the smallest and the most mundane if we will just open our minds and our eyes to look for it. In books and images, art and writing, there is joy and inspiration to be found. My studio is my happy place, cluttered and full; with groaning book cases and overflowing shelves; the heady smell of turps and incense fighting to overpower one another permeates the space and soft music sets the mood.
I thrill at the sight of a blank canvas, and my mind bursts with possibilities. I am a magpie, collecting papers and pictures and a strange array of found objects. I am just as enthralled with odd bits picked up at a hardware store as I am with bits of nature’s bounty found lying in the garden. Often I am fortunate to find a great piece of old furniture to revamp which brings joy to my heart.
My favourite subject is people, the human; The crowning glory of God’s creative handiwork.
My journey never ends; playing and exploring with paint and colour and words and sentences; furniture and books. It is constant growing and learning and exploring. It is sheer joy at the same time that it is torturous agony!
